Where does the name come from and how did it originate?

 

Well after some research I have discovered the following.

 

The name comes from the Saxon word for burial ground on an island. It seems that Circi or Circa means burial ground A Cicic is a burial ground that is put above a ground level to keep the dead dry!

 

Over the years records show that the name shows our village name has changed from Le Circa to Ive Circa to Yve Church and finally Ivy church.

 

So there we have it the history of the village name! So if on the way back from the pub tonight you feel a spookiness about the place you now know what it is.
